I am writing, as a resident…

I am writing, as a resident of Oro-Medonte, to express my dismay, even anger, at your government's choice to favour development and expediency over the protection of our habitat (yes, ours meaning humans), agriculture and rural areas, our watershed, green canopy, lake systems and countless other natural and necessary systems facing potential destruction by this short-sighted and wrong-headed policy/legislative direction.

The effects of human over-population and unchecked, aggressive growth continue to manifest in obvious ways - do I need to name them? Increasingly significantly swings in our climate, increasing numbers of natural disasters not only in other countries but here in Canada, Ontario even, human health consequences, shortage and increasing cost of foods (have you even tried to buy lettuce lately??!)..

Your government has done nothing to mitigate these issues and, now, with this and other legislation, condones the continued deterioration of our lands, our province, our health and our children's futures.

Yes, housing is a problem, but your government has not provided a solution - just created more problems. Your government's policies continue to cater to that 1% of the population that already has what they need, and developers who are only out to make money. Further, removing restrictions, taxes and financial obligations on developers enriches only them, not the people of Ontario.

The issues arising from your government's poor vision are a legion.
