I hope the auditor general of Ontario and the provincial ethics commission will do a thorough investigation of the allegations that developers were given prior notice of this Act so they could buy up huge parcels of land that were supposed to be protected.
Premier Ford lied when he said “Unequivocally, we won’t touch the Greenbelt!” This betrayal, the corruption it suggests, and the flagrant way it dismisses local, democratic decisions, is destructive and despicable. We the People will not stand for it!
As one of Hamilton’s city councillors said at the 1,000 strong rally outside our city hall said today, “Ford is messing with the wrong people! We’re scrappy people here in Hamilton, and we’re smart people too. If the Ford government tries to take a bite out of our Greenbelt, this ‘creature of the Province’ will bite back!”
Not backing down and repealing Bill 23 could eventually result in a General Strike. Do we really have to go through a disruption like that to ensure the will of the people prevails? Our chapter hopes not, though we would support it 100%! The Hamilton Chapter of the Council of Canadians calls on the government of Ontario to repeal Bill 23 immediately!
