I vehemently oppose this proposal. Doug Ford promised that he would not open any section of the Greenbelt for development and he should be a man of his word. It is clear that there is a need for more housing in Ontario, but removing these 15 proposed areas will not solve that problem. Instead they will cause more urban sprawl, create more carbon emissions, lose valuable farmland and lose critical wetlands that recharge drinking water for people in urban areas.
Each acre in the Greenbelt has been set aside for the well-being of future generations of Ontario citizens. As such they should be conserved and protected as they were intended. It is a very dangerous step to revert to earlier misunderstanding of the role and importance of "undeveloped" land.
