The problem is not that we need more homes. The problem is that rent and housing prices in the region are astronomical. There are thousands of units available for the estimated 2 million people that will be moving to the region. We are not at a time where sacrificing protected environment for unnecessary housing should be an option. We must protect our environment. If the need is housing (for people who are currently theoretical numbers in the future) then the action must deal with our current housing crisis. What use is building home for the future if our future is doomed? Moreover, we the public are not deceived by Ford’s plan to use housing as a puppet show for the construction of his highway and lobbyist development. This proposed plan invalidates conservation efforts and sets a precedent we simply cannot afford. I am in my 20s; I hope to have a long and healthy life in the Toronto region as I have so far. However this plan directly threatens my future, and for homes (which we already have so many of - unattainable as they are). Propose a plan to cut housing and rental costs. Fix the problem; don’t create another.
