This proposal is so absurd, so ill-conceived and so disingenuous that I don’t believe that it should be pursued both as a matter of good governance and as a matter of ethics and morality.

The housing crisis in Ontario is very real, and I can personally speak to that as a young person who, as things currently stand, could never hope to own a home in this province. As if that isn’t enough, if I were to lose my current appartement, I wouldn’t even be able to afford to continue to rent in my area.

If this government legitimately thinks that paving over some of the most important areas of natural land and farmland in this country is the solution to that issue — if they truly believe that this will help in any way and they aren’t blatantly lying or using it as a political trick to gain favour with donors — if this any member of this government truly believes that this is for the good of the people of Ontario, then they should absolutely resign immediately due to incompetence and neglect to your office.

The people of Ontario need real, proven solutions. Brave solutions. New ideas. We have so much space inside of our cities to build up density so we can create healthier more sustainable cities. Destroying our environment to build unaffordable single-family homes will do none of those things. It will be a disaster. This bill and this government are a disgrace.

The fact that both Minister Clark and Premier Ford blatantly lied to the public about this on multiple occasions should be a clear enough demonstration that they know it is wrong and that it cannot proceed.

If things continue as proposed, just know that the rest of your time in office will become incredibly difficult. And we will be on the ground defending our environment no matter what.

This plan is shameful and a disgrace.
