I vehemently oppose the proposal to sell off protected lands in Ontario's Greenbelt for two reasons. First, the proposal ignores many alternative solutions to Ontario's large and growing housing crisis. One effective alternative is to rezone parts of the GTA and surrounding areas to encourage density rather than suburban sprawl. We do not need more single-family homes and the immense waste that this type of "growth" entails (e.g., more roads for polluting cars and further deterioration of the environment). Second, the brazen corruption behind this proposal is cartoonish and would be laughable if it weren't so dire. This piece by The Globe and Mail (linked below) summarizes the issue well. In short, Ontarians lose *their* protected lands so Ford's campaign donors can make money. The optics of this are abysmal, but sadly, the truth seems much worse.

We can't pave over everything. What we stand to lose here will be lost forever. We should be trying to *expand* our protected green spaces, not turn them into roads and strip malls.
