Dear Government,
I'm writing to voice my extreme concern over Bill 23. What is being done to the greenbelt undermines everything that has been accomplished so far, in terms of species protection. More importantly, the land that is protected as the greenbelt in it's current form protects our urban areas from flooding. This erosion of the environment (and Bill 23 is only one example) must not be allowed to continue, please. There are other ways to provide homes. Also, the homes created must be affordable for those who have lower incomes. Encourage the building of apartments and condominiums in urban areas. Streamline the processes, like Edmonton did, to allow the intensification of existing residential areas - more basement apartments, tiny homes in backyards, alleyway homes. There are ways other than changing the greenbelt.
Also, the optics of the relationship with the builders makes the current government look coopted and that's not good, affecting the publics faith in their elected officials.
You've listened to the public before on eco-issues. It only made people trust you more, believing you to be democratically minded. Please, do that again and don't change the greenbelt.
Yours in Nature,
Sean
