There are so many issues with Bill 23 the entire Bill needs to be reviewed thoroughly with enough time for citizens to properly comment on the sections that matter most to them. I feel strongly that the omnibus bill and the speed by which it was passed are undemocratic.
While we may need more affordable housing in Ontario I believe the sweeping changes in Bill 23 do more harm than good to our communities, we need smart growth not urban sprawl. I wish to see the right houses built in the right places for the right reasons, Bill 23 does none of the above.
In particular, the proposed changes to the Planning act and Development Charges Act critically undermine a communities ability to fund proper planning process and the construction of healthy neighbourhoods. Please remove the changes that reduce the development costs, I want developers to pay their fair share and would argue removing/reducing these charges puts and unfair burden on tax payers.
Our neighbourhoods need more parkland not less, we all experienced as a result of COVID restrictions the important mental and physical benefits that come from having accessible safe outdoor spaces. Reducing/limiting the amount of parkland allowed in developing communities will increase the number of houses that get built in such a minuscule way that this regulatory change is needlessly harmful. Please do better and remove these changes.
