I would take issue with some of the proposed changes as being too aggressive. I can appreciate trying to harmonize boaters versus land owners. The impacts for coming on land for 21 days is no different than staying on water above public land. There is loss of sunlight in both circumstances. Discharge of grey water from a vessel is illegal in Ontario, and the proposed vessels for camping have holding tanks for this reason (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/900343). There are many lakes of varying sizes throughout Ontario and if the requirement is changed to 300m from a developed shoreline it will vastly limit space for camping, causing heavier groupings of boats in otherwise more spread areas. 100m would give plenty of space for navigation and the ability to access roads, docks, etc. Moving 1km to a new location could also prove more troublesome as it may leave those in a slightly larger vessel limited to their ability to find suitable alternate camping locations. 500m would still provide a vast difference to any aquatic and/or environmental impact while having a fair opportunity for campers over water. Marina's have increased in business since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and the majority contacted have a waitlist to obtain a slip. To assume that campers on a houseboat or vessel will have ample opportunity to reside on a transient slip would be a grave error and will leave many without any option. I recommend amending these proposed changes in order to provide a safe, fair, and environmentally conscious camping experience for all.
