Hello, I have concerns about the new proposed amendment to the Public Lands Act, 'camping on water'. I understand that this is targeting people who choose to live aboard on the water but I fear that it will have a negative impact on those of us who enjoy pleasure craft boating.
Many boaters choose to vacation and travel on their boats which includes anchoring in various places such as small coves and bays or near break walls where it is safe from weather. I agree with the proposed changes relating to time, ie; max stay 21 to 7 days and having to move more than 1km. However, implementing a 300m min distance from a developed shore will cause some problems. Many anchorages are small and the only place to be safe in the anchorage would be close to shore, well within 300m.
We frequently travel in Lake Ontario and it it was deemed illegal to anchor close to shore, or near a pier or breakwall then you are taking away a safe shelter for boaters. I understand the sentiment of this amendment but ask that you consider the impact on those of us who choose to vacation on our boats as opposed to 'liveaboard'. Our boats are used for navigation primarily with overnight capabilities. Not the other way around. We spend a significant amount of money on our boats which includes services from marinas and yacht clubs, which further support out economy.
Thank you for you time.
