The proposed changes are…

The proposed changes are definitely moving in the right direction for floating accommodations. We are cottagers on a lake where the shoreline is all crown land. A floating rental accommodation business started last year just across the bay from us and we feared that we may be exposed to an uncontrolled community of new cottages. It appears by the website of this particular owner that he intends to increase the amount of rental units and use water access camping sites on the lake. We have definitely noticed an increase in boat traffic as the operator moves people and goods back and forth to the rental unit. We are also concerned about the environmental impact on the lake. (grey water discharge etc,) This is a well know canoe tripping, houseboat rental lake in northern Ontario and monopolizing these limited camp sites by floating cottages will be detrimental for these family campers that enjoy this activity over the course of the summer. It seems that using the campsites for long term (21 days) floating accommodations is not in keeping for the intended purpose of these sites.
If we understand the amended legislation correctly this hopefully is enough to curtail this type of business so the beauty of our lakes and waterways in Ontario is not lost for future generations. Therefore we are in agreement with the proposed amendment.
