Again today, Council for the County of Peterborough revisited the issue of Floating Accommodations and proposed changes to the Public Lands Act because an updated proposal has been posted for comment on the Environmental Registry. Council is deeply disappointed in the changes to the proposal and feel that they do not protect the privacy of shoreline residents and the environment. The deletion of certain proposed prohibitions does not holistically address issues that are related to floating accommodations. No explanation as to why these were removed has been given. This in itself is truly disappointing.
Furthermore, Council is of the opinion that proposing a change to the posting without adding more time for consultation is irresponsible and naturally, is concerned that significant changes to this proposal, or any proposal in mid-process (especially without explanation for doing so), erodes the decision-making process.
Please note that Council is still supportive of its initial comments filed on March 15, 2023 and as it does not embrace the changes that MNRF has made.
