Friends of the Tay Watershed Association submitted comments on Bill 23 expressing concern about the elimination of site plan control to waterfront residential development of 10 units or less. Our Association is pleased that this matter has been reconsidered under a proposed Ontario Regulation associated with Bill 97. We are supportive of the proposed exemption that will allow for site plan control to be applied to waterfront development within 120 meters of a shoreline. Healthy shorelines contribute to healthy waterbodies and the conservation and protection of fish and wildlife habitat, as well as wetlands. The continued use and application of site plan control will enable municipalities to ensure that shorelines are sustained or restored to their natural state and that wildlife corridors and aquatic and terrestrial habitat is protected. Our mission as an Association is to partner with property owners, conservation authorities, municipalities and environmental NGOs to raise awareness and recommend measures for sustaining the ecological functions and natural environmental attributes of the Tay Watershed, and to this end, once again, we support the proposed regulation to reintroduce the application of site plan control to shoreline areas. Thank you. Glenn Tunnock, MCIP, RPP, President, Friends of the Tay Watershed Association. friends@taywatershed.ca
