I think the Greenbelt itself is a complete sham and waste of time. If the population is to keep growing by bringing in immigrants as politicians want, then they have to build houses somewhere. That can not be achieved with just simply densification. I know there has to be a border with anything, but what makes a MOUNT HOPE or any other Greenbelt TREE so sacred as a tree across the road in CALEDONIA or outside the Greenbelt. There snapping turtles everywhere in Ontario so why are Greenbelt turtles so special? People say send immigrants to North Bay / Sudbury etc but what needs to be done there to build houses??? A LOT OF TREES need cutting.
Also what gave the government the right to build the world’s biggest CONSERVATION AREA / PROVINCIAL PARK ??? For free. Normally the land would need to be bought for that purpose but no government just waved there wand and said we now have a free park / conservation area ( also called the Greenbelt now )
I think people in the greenbelt should be paid $$ for this. The closer you live to an area of development the more $$ you get. If you live across the road from a developed area, then you should get 75% of their value, if you live 5 km away you should get 50% of the closest developed area value and so on.
Some Liberal politicians believe this to be a fair thing, like Pennsylvania has an easement thing for the same purpose. Hamilton sent out ballots to question the urban boundary expansion and only I think 19,000 households mailed it back in. Most were against the urban boundary expansion but what about all the other probably 180000 households in Hamilton( population 500k so probably 200k houses ) that don’t really about the Greenbelt or Urban Boundary Expansion. I guess the squeaky wheel ( and environmentalists) get the grease.

Thanks David.
