The greenbelt structure…

The greenbelt structure along with the policies are unfair to actual farmers who own the land. We have never been shown any reports to why our land was included. We have no water, no animal migration pattern and our land is poor quality farm land. City infrastructure actually affected the water drainage causing part of our land to require significant work to correct and the expense to do so is just not feasible.

These polices have restricted us from selling our land for market price. Builders should not be the only one who has the ability to remove their land from greenbelt. The farmers who have worked this land should be rewarded for their years of commitment to the land. This land is not all owned by government bodies or land speculators/developers.

Nobody within the government or municipal office will communicate with the landowners on how to move forward with challenging the Greenbelt borders. City bylaws prevent us from utilizing our land for majority of the agricultural sector. It was originally used as a mix hobby farm including hogs and cattle. With townhouses at the end of our lane, we are limited to smell restrictions. You can’t have it both ways. We have city traffic lights that look to have an option to go north for development onto our land, yet we are zoned Greenbelt.

Due to the Greenbelt policies, the land is now sitting with 2 generations of estates, and we are unable to move on. This is not right or fair to our family.

We would like an explanation to why our land is included, and for government to engage in a conversation. The loud environmental activists are overshadowing the people who know and care for our land. There needs to be a shift in who it is important to engage in discussions.
