I grew up, and still have family in the town of Dresden, this waste disposal site should not be able to operate/expand/ reopen at this location. Due to the very close proximity to the town approximately 1-1.5 km from the community of Dresden, there is also a waterway/creek that runs down/transgradient to the site on the east side of the property adjacent to the property line, and this waterway leads straight into the Sydenham River, going by groundwater flow data on the ontario.ca website. The Sydenham River is already a fragile ecosystem, and prime spawn grounds for many fish and amphibians, and according to a document published by the government of Ontario effects of leachate from land fills can be found 3 km from the site. I work for an environmental consulting company and have seen the dispersion modeling for air contamination and how far it travels from the site, there are 2 public schools within 2 km of this site, not only will they have to worry about the methane gasses produced, the will have to worry about pm2.5 and pm10 ( particulate matter). I also worked at a landfill for 2 years, and the trash that flies out of the trucks is a great amount, ive seen that first hand. The property values will decrease, so not only do they have to deal with the pollution, they now have loss of value of property. Dresden is an agricultural community, livestock surrounds the country side. What effects will this have on the livestock surrounding the site? In all the site visits I've done, (Phase I and, Phase II Site assessments, ECA applications, E2 Emergancy plans, Waste Audits) I have never seen a landfill placed that close to a residential community.
Too even consider placing a landfill that close to a community speaks alot about this company!
