I am commenting on Ontario's is proposal to convert Bigwind Lake Provincial Park from a non-operating park to an operating park. The park at present has a remote wilderness feel, which people desire as a break from city life. Instead of damaging this unspoiled part of Muskoka, Ontario should be expanding protected places to safeguard nature as well as meet the demand for more connection with the outdoors. Vacationers will push out wildlife and carve up the intact habitats that they depend on.
Bigwind is home to 14 species at risk, including Algonquin wolves, supported by the park’s mature mixed forests, wetlands and waterways. The proposal for Bigwind will be damaging to the animals who call this place their home. This is a natural environment with wildlife. Expand the Park system, don’t carve the heart out of Bigwind.
