Though not traditionally a liberal supporter I think Kathleen Wynne has done a commendable job in her stewardship of our province. I was concerned when I heard we do not have a good plan nuclear response plan in place. Lire davantage

The Ontario government should recognize public expectations for public safety, including putting in place measures to protect the public in the event of a Fukushima-scale accident. [Original Comment ID: 210370]

Given that there are many nuclear plants in Ontario within a short distance from large population centres and from agricultural regions, the nuclear safety is of paramount importance. Lire davantage

We do not need another Fukushima. It is not a matter of whether, but when, another Fukushima will occur. Let it not be here! We must invest in wind and solar power. [Original Comment ID: 210372]

In Ontario, we continue to stockpile spent fuel, remodel old technology, and deliver electricity through the nuclear industry methods. We know that human error, climate change, an earthquake, flood or snow event will at some point in time result in a serious nuclear incident. Lire davantage

Dear Minister, I am most concerned that our province continues to extend the life of nuclear reactors who are past their 'best by' dates. We must learn from Fukushimi and the ongoing problems in Japan. Lire davantage

Normally I would tell you not to spend another penny on nuclear power but to give it to solar, wind and hydro programs instead, but you should never try to save a penny when public safety is in question. Lire davantage

I want protection from accidents like Fukushima. I want the government to start a managed decline process for nuclear power and to invest in non-toxic, sustainable, renewable energy. We need to look at solar energy and develop it. [Original Comment ID: 210379]

I am a resident of Toronto, and I am concerned about the proximity of nuclear energy plants to my place of residence. I am concerned for my own safety and that of my family, friends, and all individuals living close to the nuclear power plants. Lire davantage

I live very close to the Pickering Nuclear Power Plant, a short distance from the Darlington Plant in Clarington and on the outer edge of the City of Toronto which bosts the largest population in Canada. Lire davantage

We need world-class nuclear emergency plans. As a cancer survivor I know first-hand how devastating radiation poisoning is (3600 rads [36 Grey] administered over 8 weeks). Please, please make sure we have the best of the best protection. And remember it's not just humans who will be affected. Lire davantage

Myself and my family are Ontarians who live near one of the 25 reactors that line the shores of the Great Lakes. We know that major nuclear accidents have occurred about once a decade globally, and Ontario should be prepared to protect us in the event of a nuclear emergency. Lire davantage

I feel very very strongly that Ontario should recognize the risk of a Fukushima-scale accident and meet public expectations of protection in the event of a worst-case nuclear accident on the Great Lakes. Lire davantage

1) The Ontario government should be much better prepared for a major nuclear accident on the scale of Fukushima by modelling a major incident. Bruce, Pickering and Darlington could all result in nuclear catastrophes on the same scale as Fukushima. Lire davantage
