Conservation Authority designations are made 'for the public good' but the landowner bears the cost in devalued property. This needs to change. Conservation Authorities should pay compensation when their designations damage property values.

The role of CAs is more critical now than ever. The province should be providing more support not less; they are key partners in the climate change fight. They are already accountable to their watershed municipalities given the makeup of their boards.

A key element that is missing from the proposed changes is the importance of a watershed approach. This is in effect a systems approach to resource management.
