I understand the need to ensure we have a strong economy but I am worried about the loss of some of the checks and balances the Special Economic Zones Act would eliminate. I live in Waterloo Region and have seen how rapidly industry can change. In the not too distant past Budd, Seagrams, Kaufman, Schneiders and Uniroyal were key players in the Region and now they are defunct. I am sure when Budd, Kaufman, Schneider's were expanding, everyone would have thought they would be around forever. While the footprint they occupied can be re-purposed for the Tech industry or the whomever the next economic players will be in this area, areas like farmland, green spaces and heritage areas, both Indigenous and Settler, once industrialized are not easily recovered. Losing more farms that produce food for Canadians, conservation areas that preserve our natural heritage and heritage spaces that remind us who we are, as imperfect as that may be, are not replaceable, We owe it to the next generation to not just look at what is beneficial for today's bottom line but examine closely the impact this may have on them.
