This is counterintuitive and disingenuous.
Deregulating to build faster often leads to lower-quality, poorly planned buildings and infrastructure. People who live and work in these spaces will bear the short-term and long-term consequences: overheating in the summer, underheating in the winter, poor ventilation, moisture issues that will be harmful to health — all while shouldering the costly maintenance fees for maintaining substandard buildings.
Beyond the risks to human well-being, there are serious long-term consequences for ecosystems, endangered species, and water systems — including pollution, habitat destruction, and reduced climate resilience.
Rather than encouraging the development of well-designed, sustainable, and future-proof infrastructure that benefits everyone and strengthens the economy long-term, this legislation prioritizes short-term gains for select groups and political optics over lasting quality, livability, and environmental responsibility.
