With respect to the reductions in set-backs, please be careful not to allow a reduction in set-backs in the case where a building is being constructed close to high voltage lines. We are required to remain 3m back from hydro lines when working on a building, and need space for the suspended stages and related equipment to safely and cost-effectively do wall restoration work.
With respect to removing the rights of cities to develop building requirements such as the Toronto Green Standard:
- I agree that each municipality having different building standards creates a complex situation for builders trying to build home and that a consistent set of requirements across the province would be preferable
- I understand that greening buildings can drive up the cost of construction, which may run counter to the desire to make housing more affordable (which is a critical priority).
- If this moves forward, I am hopeful that the province will supplement the OBC to include the best features of the municipal green standards that are being eliminated.
