Wasaga Beach is a Crown jewel in Ontario's parks system, and the proposal to transfer ownership of Areas 1 and 2 to the Town of Wasaga Beach is both appalling and unsurprising, given the current provincial government's record of dismantling environmental protections. The blatant favouritism toward developers in this proposal will achieve economic gains for a select few, while the destruction of precious parkland will never be undone. The proposal asserts that the change will include "continuing to protect the area's natural and cultural heritage", but there is zero elaboration on how that will be achieved and monitored. This is yet another example of this government's drive to "pave paradise, put up a parking lot".
