This proposal is deeply concerning. Selling off protected provincial parkland to attract private “investment” undermines the very purpose of Ontario’s parks, to preserve natural spaces for public benefit, not corporate profit. This move sets a dangerous precedent. If this sale goes ahead, what’s to stop future governments from carving up other parks, like the Pinery or Algonquin, for development, luxury cottages, or tourism ventures that cater only to the wealthy?
After reviewing the proposal, I was alarmed to find that it includes changes removing the requirement for detailed reports and public comment on future land sales. This lack of transparency is unacceptable.
I strongly oppose selling any provincial parkland, especially when it could lead to irreversible damage to sensitive ecosystems. Wasaga Beach is home to endangered species like the Piping Plover, and yet there is no clear plan to protect its nesting grounds after the land is transferred.
Someone stands to profit from this deal, but it’s certainly not the people of Ontario.
