Commentaire

I am writing to express strong opposition to the Town of Wasaga’s proposal to convert parts of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for "tourism enhancement" purposes. These protected lands serve as critical habitat for endangered species, most notably the piping plover, which are at risk of being extirpated from the province entirely.

The dune ecosystems at Wasaga Beach are among the most ecologically sensitive environments in the region. Development in these areas would not only degrade irreplaceable natural landscapes but also pose an immediate and likely irreversible threat to the piping plovers, which depend on these undisturbed shores for nesting and survival.

Tourism and conservation are not mutually exclusive, but this proposal prioritizes short-term economic interests over long-term environmental responsibility. True enhancement of tourism should celebrate and protect natural heritage, not destroy it.

I urge decision-makers to reject this proposal and instead invest in sustainable tourism that respects and preserves the ecological integrity of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.
