I strongly oppose this proposal. It represents a serious overreach of government power and sets a dangerous precedent for the future of Ontario’s natural and protected spaces.
While economic development and tourism are important, they must not come at the cost of undermining environmental protection that have been in place for decades. The Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act and the Historical Parks Act were created to preserve Ontario’s natural and cultural heritage, not to be rewritten for short-term economic gain.
If these changes are allowed, what’s to stop future governments from opening the door to private interests and commercial development in other protected areas?Ontario’s natural wonders belong to all of us—not to be bartered away under the guise of "restoration" or "growth."
Wasaga Beach is a cherished natural area, and weakening legislation meant to protect it could lead to irreversible environmental degradation. Once these spaces are compromised, we don’t get them back.
This proposal should be withdrawn immediately. The long-term health of our ecosystems, public trust, and Ontario’s environmental legacy are far more valuable than any short-term tourism boost.
