I am writing to express my concerns regarding the removal of Nancy Island from the permanent protections intended by its inclusion as part of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. As the government knows, the purpose of designating areas like Nancy Island was to permanently protect them. While I understand the government’s intention to increase tourism to Wasaga Beach, in my opinion, that does not and should not give the government the right to begin dismantling Ontario’s provincial parks, especially areas that were added because of environmental or cultural importance. This issue was not raised in the recent election, and the attempt to float such an idea with a small window for comment during a time when parliament in not in session and many voters are on vacation does not do the government credit.
