The Plover is a special bird and considers Wasaga Beach shoreline one of it's homes. For years now we have taken time every summer to go to Wasaga to help preserve the shoreline for the se birds. It is an important time for many people to do the extra work to preserve the shoreline for these birds. It also is a vital annual time for many people local and from those throughout the province to make the journey to Wasaga to see and appreciate the dedicated fowl. We can continue to do the work to make sure the birds thrive. The economic reality of Wasaga may even depend on these birds and much of the natural habitat around Wasaga; but thinking that you can simply destroy Wasaga Beach and commercialize it is a myth and a developer's pipedream. The future of Wasaga Beach is not to be a copy of Fort Lauderdale or any other US beach front. The reason Wasaga Beach is popular and not economical is because it is small town beauty and attractiveness. And, the Plovers are one of those valuable attractions, similar to the beautiful sun rise over the beachline trees, the lengthy shore for families and shallow water swimmers, canoeing on the river and watching the sunset behind the Blue mountains getting you ready for another beauty tomorrow. Play your casino out at the highway, go to the ski hills for fun; but please leave the Plovers alone and Wasaga Beach one of those places of magic in Great Lakes territory of the Huron.
