As a concerned Ontarian, I urge you to preserve Nancy Island as a Class A park under MECP while empowering MTCG to manage heritage programming. This approach offers the best of both worlds: maximum cultural exposure without compromising environmental integrity.
It’s not just a matter of conservation, it’s a smarter economic choice. Eco-cultural destinations generate sustained tourism revenue, attract international interest, and maintain Ontario’s reputation as a leader in heritage preservation. Visitors trust the MECP brand. Partnering with MTCG can expand programming, guided tours, reenactments, seasonal festivals, without needing to deregulate or overdevelop.
In contrast, delisting this site could erode public confidence, provoke backlash, and result in diminished long-term income. Privatization or redevelopment might offer short-term financial boosts, but these pale in comparison to the reliable revenue from heritage-driven tourism that values both story and setting.
MECP and MTCG both stand to gain: MECP sustains its legacy of stewardship, and MTCG expands its influence in a way Ontarians will support. Choose the option that protects the land and boosts the economy, not just for now, but for decades to come.
