How will you be increasing the tourism economy by destroying the very reason people are drawn to Ontario in the first place?
Canada's — and especially Ontario’s — wilderness is among our most precious and irreplaceable resources. From forests and lakes to wetlands and wildlife, this natural wealth is not just aesthetically breathtaking — it is ecologically vital, culturally rooted, and increasingly rare in our rapidly urbanizing and warming world.
Yet this government continues to make decisions that jeopardize the long-term health of our ecosystems without meaningful consultation — not with the general public, nor with Indigenous communities, whose philosophies and legal rights are foundational to environmental stewardship in this country. This disregard violates not only principles of good governance but also responsibilities under treaties and reconciliation efforts.
At a time when more people than ever are seeking real connection with nature — for health, for learning, for healing — we should be investing in protection, not paving over wild lands for short-term economic gain. Tourism that relies on natural beauty and biodiversity is not compatible with policies that clear forests, weaken conservation authorities, or gut environmental assessments.
To destroy wilderness is to destroy one of the last remaining commons we share — and once it's gone, it cannot be rebuilt. What will we have to offer future generations, or even the next wave of visitors?
Please stop this pattern of short-sighted development. Begin listening — truly listening — to those who know these lands deeply, and to the people of Ontario who increasingly recognize that environmental care is not optional, but essential.
