"This proposal is part of the government’s 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario commitment to revitalize Nancy Island to boost tourism and drive economic growth in Wasaga Beach, while continuing to protect the area's natural and cultural heritage.
By removing Nancy Island from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and placing it under the HPA, MTCG would assume responsibility for its management and protection. This transition would support the Town of Wasaga Beach’s objectives to increase tourism and attract investment."
The above description of the proposal for Nancy Island would be the best solution to maintain and enhance this important part of Canadian history.
Beach areas 1 and 2 as well as New Wasaga and Allanwood Beach should remain as crown property. The breeding grounds of the rare piping plover in Beach 1 could never be replaced if any kind of development was ever allowed to be done there. The dunes in some of these areas are also a feature that could not be replicated by anything but nature. They should be protected for that reason.
