Subject: Opposition to Proposed Removal and Redevelopment of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park Lands (ERO #025‑0694)

I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed removal and transfer of lands from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for redevelopment.

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is not just a local attraction — it is a globally significant ecosystem. Its sand dune systems and shoreline provide critical habitat for species at risk, including the endangered piping plover. These areas are protected for good reason: once they are fragmented or commercialized, they cannot be restored.

Amending the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act to allow the removal of such large portions of a park undermines the integrity of our entire protected area network. It sets a dangerous precedent that parklands can be carved up whenever short‑term development goals arise. This contradicts the spirit of long‑term stewardship that Ontarians expect from our government.

I urge you to:
- Maintain Wasaga Beach Provincial Park’s current boundaries and protections in full.
- Reject legislative changes that make it easier to dispose of parkland.
- Focus tourism and economic development efforts on lands already zoned for those purposes rather than sacrificing protected ecosystems.

Our provincial parks belong to all Ontarians, and decisions about their future must prioritize conservation, biodiversity, and public trust over private development interests.

Thank you for considering my comments and for protecting this irreplaceable part of Ontario’s natural heritage.
