Good morning,
I would like to voice my concern on the new plans to transfer control of sections of our Provincial Park at Wasaga Beach. In no way would transferring administration and control of Nancy Island from MECP to MTCG by removing Nancy Island from the PPCRA and including it under the HPA, or the sale of Beach Areas 1, 2, New Wasaga and Allenwood Beach, achieve the goal of protecting the area's natural and cultural heritage. Tourism, Culture and Gaming are not mandated to prioritize the protection of natural spaces and ecosystems. The Ministry who focuses on Conservation and Parks should be responsible for this space. This land has been a historic site for almost 100 years and the park has shepherded the land for 66. It is a critical habitat for the endangered Piping Plover and cannot be developed without losing the local population.
Please do not move forward with this proposal. With climate change and rapid species extinction, we need to be looking to protect more not less.
Thank you for your time,
Lyndsay
