Wasaga beach supports so…

Wasaga beach supports so much biodiversity. If this proposal were to come to pass, there will be irreversible ecological consequences-- Ontario must stand up for our natural areas, to ensure that these areas will continue to be protected for years to come. There are already so many developments that have torn up natural areas across the province. In the end, ruining ecological balance is not only devastating for wildlife like the Piping Plover's habitat that would be threatened by this proposed development, but we must also start recognizing the consequences that will impact human communities as well: for example, the risk of flooding, and diminishing the natural areas available for future generations to explore outdoors which many studies have indicated is essential for mental/physical health and well-being. There is also so much history, including from Indigenous communities, tied to the land of this beach. This deserves to be recognized and respected, as so much of Indigenous land has already been disrespected and torn up by the Ontario government without any regard for its cultural and ecological significance. One of the things that makes me proud to be Canadian is our vast natural areas- like Wasaga beach. As not only a proud Canadian, but also a biology graduate who has studied the importance of ecosystems such as this one, I won't stop speaking up until Ontario nature is respected and protected as it deserves. It is our responsibility, and proposals such as this destructive one for Wasaga beach is simply abhorrent and shameful- we must do better. Let's raise the ecological, cultural, and social significance of the provincial parks to a higher priority instead of merely seeing this beautiful land as another potential area for economic growth.
