Subject: Strong Opposition to Removing Portions of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

Comment:
As a resident who grew up in Wasaga Beach, maintained strong family/community ties I strongly oppose the proposed removal of Beach Areas 1, 2, New Wasaga, and Allenwood from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and the transfer of this land to the Town of Wasaga Beach. These beach areas are not just recreational zones—they are part of a delicate and ecologically significant shoreline ecosystem that provides essential habitat for wildlife and contributes to long-term environmental sustainability.

The Town of Wasaga Beach has not demonstrated a strong commitment to preserving green space or protecting biodiversity. Its history shows a tendency to prioritize short-term development interests, with a high risk that this land will be sold to private developers. Turning over these parklands undermines public trust and sets a dangerous precedent for the privatization of protected spaces.

While retaining Crown ownership of the lake and riverbed portions is noted, it does not go far enough. Removing the adjacent parkland from provincial protection will damage both the environmental integrity and public accessibility of Wasaga Beach.

These public lands must remain in public hands and under the protection of the provincial park system. I urge the government to reject this proposal and instead prioritize conservation, sustainable tourism, and long-term environmental stewardship.
