This is an absolutely unconscionable move on the Ford government's part and can not be allowed to move forward. Wasaga beach should not be privatised under any circumstances, for ecological reasons (it is a critical habitat of the endangered piping plover, the mature sand dunes, the wetlands and vegetation areas that would be removed), as well as for the continued access of all Ontarians.
A lifelong Ontarian, I am a regular visitor to Wasaga with my family, and being able to freely access this stretch of beach is invaluable. Removing it from provincial park care can only be detrimental to the beach, the water, and Ontario itself.
The beach is always plenty busy, bringing more tourism to the area is a thinly veiled excuse for private citizens and corporations to reap the economic rewards of Ontario's natural resources and must not be allowed. I urge the Ford government to stop the amendment to the provincial parks act and stop the sale of provincial park lands. The people of Ontario and it's natural resources must come before capitalist greed and the destruction of sensitive natural areas.
