I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed sale or transfer of provincial parkland in Wasaga Beach. As a resident and/or visitor who deeply values Ontario’s natural spaces, I am alarmed at the prospect of losing public parkland to private interests — particularly in a region as ecologically and culturally significant as Wasaga Beach.
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is home to one of the world’s longest freshwater beaches and contains rare dune ecosystems that support diverse wildlife and sensitive habitats. This parkland is not just a local treasure — it is a provincial and national asset that belongs to all Ontarians. Selling or privatizing any part of it threatens its environmental integrity, public access, and long-term preservation.
Public lands should not be sold off for short-term economic gain, especially in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the growing need for protected natural spaces. Once gone, this land cannot be recovered. We urge the Ministry to instead focus on strengthening the protection of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park — not reducing it.
I respectfully call on your office to:
Cancel any plans to sell, lease, or transfer provincial parkland in Wasaga Beach;
Commit to full transparency and public consultation in any future land-use decisions;
Work in partnership with local communities, Indigenous Nations, and environmental experts to protect and restore this unique ecosystem.
We have a collective responsibility to safeguard our natural heritage. Please stand with the people of Ontario and protect Wasaga Beach Provincial Park for current and future generations.
