I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed removal of Nancy Island and several beach areas from Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. These changes risk weakening long-standing environmental protections under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act (PPCRA) in favour of short-term economic interests. Removing Beach Areas 1, 2, New Wasaga, and Allenwood Beach from the park and transferring or selling these lands could lead to increased development pressure, loss of public access, and long-term degradation of sensitive shoreline and dune ecosystems. While tourism is important, it must not come at the expense of permanently altering one of Ontario’s most ecologically and culturally significant beach systems. I urge the government to prioritize conservation and public stewardship over privatization and commercialization.
