I am staunchly against the selling off of provincial park land for land developers, both in Toronto, as is the case with Ontario Place, and with Wasaga Beach.
Wasaga beach is a place for ALL PEOPLE to enjoy, it is a provincial park, and as such should remain provincially owned and protected from environmental damage and corporate greed.
The idea of privatizing public lands to save the province money is harmful to greater society. Research shows that provincial parks and conservation reserves generate millions of dollars in tourism revenues that support and diversify local and regional economies.
Do not allow this sale to go through. It would damage Wasaga Beach, affect a valuable public good, and set a dangerous precedent for other provincial parks in the future.
Parks are an increasingly important piece of infrastructure in a warming world, not just for their protection of nature, but also for the relief they offer us. Private land use blocks regular people from enjoying nature reserves, yet again sacrificing the environment in order to funnel that land value away from public good, and into private pockets.
