I was growing up in Wasaga Beach when it was turned into a Provincial Park back in the 1970s. Despite grumblings about expropriations of some of the poorest properties at the time, people in the entire region were happy that this valuable and sensitive resource would now be protected from motorcycle gangs, illegal fires, destruction of natural habitats and pollution. The town of Wasaga Beach remains incapable of offering protection without the strength and funding of the Province behind them.

For Ontario to even consider, absolving itself of responsibility for protection of this region will inevitably result in selling portions of this park to the highest bidders so that only the rich can enjoy this resource and be considered an act of betrayal to those of us who have spent decades protecting this one-of-a-kind resource while still welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors.

This sounds to me like one of Mr. Ford's cronies wants to build another f***ing casino here?! Why else would the Province stop making this region accessible to all Ontarions, not just those who can afford it?

"The Town has recently pursued redevelopment at Beach Area One, including selling several pieces of public beachfront land for millions to a private developer. "

“He’s doing it all to benefit wealthy insiders and putting the rest of provincial parks under threat,” Schreiner said. “Ontario parks belong to the people, not wealthy Ford-connected insiders.”

DO NOT SELL OFF WASAGA BEACH! Once it is sold, the People of Ontario will never get it back again.
