The endangered piping plover…

The endangered piping plover faces new threats with the government looking at breaking up Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Losing natural beach habitat would be devastating to this endangered shore bird. "These birds build tiny scrapes on open beaches between the water’s edge and the foredunes. They rely on natural features like dunes, beach debris and wrack lines — old bits of aquatic vegetation that shelter insects and tiny crustaceans" (ecojustice, 2025). If the Ontario government makes this change to amend the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act habitat for this species will be destroyed.
