I do not support the land transfer. The land must stay as a protected environment for the piping plover bird who live there. Wasaga beach is the best habitat for them to live in and this should not be destroyed for more tourism. All of the proposed land need to be kept as part of the provincial parks and needs to have the strongest environmental protections. With bill 5 in place the town could easily bypass the protections for the birds that were previously put in place.
There are many articles about how the birds need to be properly protected due to the high amount of tourism that Wasaga beach gets.
Wasaga beach is one of the most popular beaches in Ontario. They do not need this extra land to grow the economy.
I am also deeply concerned about the president that transferring land of a provincial park would case. Ontarios provincial parks are so important to both environmental protections as well as a place for people to enjoy nature. I would worry that if we allow this to happen that more Ontario parks would be at risk.
In conclusion there must never be a sale or land transfer of provincial park land, even to a town.
Do not transfer this land.
Keep Wasaga Beach a protected provincial park.
I know that there are many petitions that have been created to show how united Ontario is in keeping Wasaga provincial land and keeping the piping plovers protected.
