I implore you to reconsider this amendment and others like it, and act to protect all publicly accessible land such as conservation and park land. To call this a “Tourism Enhancement Proposal” is laughable. How is reducing the beautiful public space, irreversibly enhancing anything other than your temporary budget?
Look into how a “tiny” but very populated island such as the UK has done it with Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now called National Landscapes. People NEED beautiful, natural areas to visit, soak up the sun, recharge their mental health in the fresh air, with space to do so.
I live between Lakes Ontario and Erie. Since covid, there are now constant traffic jams and people parking illegally all to get to a natural environment to enjoy. Most of us who work full time or just have a lot on their plate desperately need these areas to escape to for a healthy balance of outdoor activity and enjoyment. Our mental health depends on it!
REDUCING these areas is NOT the answer. PLEASE think about the next generation and beyond, and not the fleeting dollar on something that would not be a healthy decision. Please.
