I’m truly disappointed to see this proposed amendment. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park is Ontario’s most-visited provincial park, welcoming well over one million visitors annually—serving as a vital recreational, cultural, and ecological resource Removing approximately 60% of its shoreline—including key beach areas—for tourism development strikes me as both unnecessary and short-sighted.

This park isn’t merely a scenic backdrop—it’s home to fragile ecosystems, including the endangered piping plover, provincially significant wetlands, and mature dune systems that provide critical storm protection and habitat. Provincial parks are meant to protect ecological integrity for the people of Ontario, not be whittled away when development feels more convenient.

Wasaga isn’t just “popular”—it deserves its popularity because it’s exceptional. This proposal risks undermining the very reasons it’s one of the province’s most beloved and spotlighted parks. It’s unnecessary to sacrifice long‑term environmental stewardship for short‑term tourism gains. Let’s not compromise what makes Wasaga truly special.
