Hello,
As a resident of Wasaga Beach I am concerned by the proposed changes. I agree with the revitalization of the town owned areas of Beach 1, however feel it is important to protect the parts of Wasaga that are protected by crown land and provincial park rules. I support the transfer of Nancy Island as it is in disrepair and can generate revenue with visitors, however feel that it is in the best interest of the citizens of Wasaga Beach for the provincial park to maintain ownership and control of the remainder of the provincial park and the ministry of environment the crown land.

Currently the spaces are monitored for health of the ecosystem, patrolled for garbage, maintenance and safety. If the transfer of ownership would take place, the town and tax payers would bear the burden of paying for that same level of monitoring. This is a space that is to be enjoyed by all of Ontario and not just it’s local taxpayers, so it seems like an unfair financial burden to the local people.

Another concern I have is if the lands were no longer deemed provincial park or crown land, they would be at risk of development and land zoning changes causing destruction of habitats, sand dunes and the local environment. Again I feel like this transfer would indicate prioritizing the tourism desires of Ontarians over the needs of our own residents.

Lastly, I am concerned that the transfer of ownership of these crown and provincial park lands would be just the start. The town of Wasaga Beach is fortunate enough to be the home of the worlds largest freshwater beach. Along the beach is a large amount of provincial park and crown owned lands which help to make this beach so special. If ownership is changed and the focus becomes tourism over the environment then I fear we will see our beautiful home developed into something unrecognizable.

Thank you for your consideration
