Commentaire

I lived in Wasaga Beach from 2000 until 2021. For most of that time we loved living there. I have great concerns in both big picture generic terms with turning over provincial park lands, and in small picture spe ific terms with turning over Wasaga Beach Provincial Park lands. Once gone, they are unlikely to ever come back. Once developed, they are not likely to ever become undeveloped.

I read that safeguards will be in place to provide environmental protection, spe ies protection, access to the public. I also have read recently that the current government is pushing a bill to streamline the process for changing land designations and protections. That, taken in consideration with the transfer of provincial park lands to the town of Wasaga Beach, leads me to believe the safeguards are already being eroded.

If one was to do an internet search of media from the time frame of the current town mayor in his first term as mayor, along with then then council, you would find that the mayor and council were quite antagonistic towards the protection of protected species on the beach in Wasaga Beach. The frequently heard/read line was: "it's just a damn bird".

Regarding keeping the beach access public.... I think is already a poorly kept secret that there are discussions with other developers ongoing thay would see a hotel or resort being able to control the public access to the beach through the hotel access point.

Giving away protected provincial park lands is a slippery slope. And the more time passes, the fewer locals are in support of this plan.
