As a huge supporter of environmental protection , I am extremely concerned about the proposed development of Wasaga Beach. This is due to the area being the breeding grounds for the beautiful but endangered piping plover.Wasaga ‘s previous commitment to respecting this species of bird and its environment meant that over 50% of the province’s population of piping plovers were secure.
With the development proposal for Wasaga it will mean that this bird will be extremely endangered again due to the changes that will be detrimental for wildlife in general. The threat to the piping plover has not been considered because of the town’s priority to make money, attract tourism and as long as the money is being generated, it doesn’t seem to matter that wildlife, native plant species and especially the piping plover will be eliminated.
What a price to pay for greed.
