In respect to transferring…

In respect to transferring control of the Nancy Island site from Provincial Parks to the Historic Parks Act is, on the surface, a reasonable move both for the preservation of the site and the future of Wasaga Beach tourism.

However, I would suggest that such a transfer be strictly 'on-condition' of protecting the Beach1,2, natural environment. Using terms such as: "we will encourage the Town" and "we will ask the Town", leaves the final decision regarding responsible stewardship up to 'the Town' and the council of the day.

There is a high likelihood of conflict of interest both now and in the future unless the ground rules are firmly and irreversibly in place prior to completion of any such transfer of lands.

Furthermore, I see no reason to transfer New Wasaga & Allendale to the Town. This seems like a veiled action to promote waterfront development that would run contrary to the natural aspects of 'the world's longest freshwater beach'. Such development would adversely impact dunes, vegetation and degrade water quality. I fear that there is a profit-driven 'vision' to line the shore with high-rise condos - a sort of "Miami-Beach of the north'.

That is not a Town I wish to continue living in.

If indeed the Town assumes control of these areas, I feel it would be appropriate to transfer Town lands to Ontario Parks in exchange.
