The main issue at the moment…

The main issue at the moment is the high degree of public misconception because of an earlier news report that got out first. I am a resident here, and more or less everyone I talk to is currently under the impression that 60% of the park area will be expropriated including all of that in beach areas 1 and 2. My understanding is that only about 3% will be removed and the only shoreline will be that along the river downstream of Nancy Island. The attached maps appear to confirm this. This stretch of river shoreline is currently very lightly used compared to the rest of the park and is already highly impacted by all the boat traffic on the river and the existing development on the opposite shore (all of which is sheet piled!). In my view this could be a good location for new high quality tourist facilities.

The other issue is the fear that once expropriation of provincial park lands starts, it will snowball into the same thing at other parks. People need to be reminded that Wasaga Beach PP is unique in Ontario.
It has no overnight camping but services a huge customer base (Toronto!) compared to the other parks. The existing motels are mostly dives with a couple exceptions. The beach are is badly in need of new high quality hotel/ motel facilities.

Good luck trying to undo a now-entrenched misconception!
