I'm appalled to learn that the Ontario government is contemplating the transfer of parts of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to the local municipality. This is an abrogation of provincial responsibility, given that this beach is a provincial gem as well as vitally important habitat for the Endangered Piping Plover. Even if the current Council is sympathetic to the cause of fostering the return of the Piping Plover, there is no way that we can be assured that future Councils can be relied upon to say 'no' to inappropriate development.
Ontario's Provincial Parks become increasingly popular with each passing year. They should always stand as a bastion against unlimited development and human exploitation of the land. We desperately need more parks, so carving away this unique beach would take us in the wrong direction. Please, for the sake of the Piping Plover and future generations of Ontarians, do not do it!
